At Safe Citizen, we believe that the safety of every South African depends not just on government action, but on real-world, community-focused solutions. That\u2019s why on 15 April 2025, we at Safe Citizen made a formal submission directly to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) opposing the latest proposed amendments to the Private Security Industry Regulations. These changes, if pushed through, could seriously weaken community safety across South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Africans are already forced to rely heavily on private security because the state often fails to provide timely, effective protection. These regulations threaten to strip capable, law-abiding security professionals of the tools they need to do their jobs\u2014ultimately making families, businesses, and entire neighbourhoods more vulnerable to violent crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our concern is simple: in a country facing rising murder, robbery, and kidnapping rates, weakening the private security industry is not just irresponsible\u2014it\u2019s dangerous. The submission urges PSIRA and the Minister of Police to withdraw the draft regulations and open meaningful dialogue with stakeholders before introducing changes that affect millions of lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
