Take control of the criminals not the guns

Safe Citizen has noted the reported observation of the Minister of Police that 'guns are fast becoming South African children’s greatest enemies'. It is a fact that no rational person can make peace with the violent and criminal death of a child, and it is undisputed that lawful gun owners – themselves mothers and fathers effectively rely on the possession of a gun to defend their own children against criminal attack.
South African armed forces, polices, military, metros, official agencies and even the armed executive protection details that stand between Minister Cele and criminals are all empowered in their duties by the lawful possession of a gun. It is a gun that underpins the rule of law in any civilized country.
It is most unfortunate that the statement by Minister Cele appears to be at odds with the very tool on which his own officers and millions of law-abiding South Africans rely to keep themselves and others safe from criminals.
Safe Citizen suggests that the minister could perhaps have clarified his statement by saying that criminals with guns are fast becoming the greatest enemy of South Africa's children.
